Saturated fats and hypertension in the E3N cohort

Saturated fats are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but their influence on hypertension has not been clearly established. This study compared saturated fat with other macronutrients: polyunsaturated fats, animal proteins and vegetable proteins. Compared with these other macronutrients, saturated fat was systematically associated with a higher risk of hypertension, which supports the dietary guidelines recommending that saturated fat intake should be low.
